The Alabama Animal Adoption Society is a non-profit organization that serves the Greater Birmingham, Alabama area completely via private donations and volunteer efforts. Their goal is to give animals a second chance at life with the help of volunteers and loving adoptive families.

How to Adopt a Pet from The Alabama Animal Adoption Society

Adopting a pet requires a $100 tax-deductible donation. This contribution enables their organization to deliver the services they offer as well as basic medical care to the adoptees.

What is included in the adoption fee for puppies and kittens?

• Shots based on the pet's age
• A single deworming
• Certificates for free spay or neutering that can be presented to one of their participating veterinarians.

What is included in the adoption fee for adult dogs and cats?

• With the exception of rabies, all permanent vaccinations are provided. Because rabies vaccinations (which are required by Alabama State Law every year) include a tag and certificate in the owner's name, it is best for the new owner to take care of this in case the pet becomes lost.
• If the pet hasn't already been spayed or neutered, it comes with a complimentary spay or neuter certificate that may be used at any of their participating vets.

The Alabama Animal Adoption Society's mission is to place each pet in the best possible home for that animal. Potential owners are interviewed and must fill out an adoption application to ensure that a pet is placed in the appropriate household environment. The application requests information that will assist in determining whether the home is suitable for that pet. Before they may adopt a pet, all applicants must be approved.

Even if you only volunteer once a month, you can make a big difference! Their  volunteer team is the backbone of the Alabama Animal Adoption Society, and they are always in need of loving and responsible volunteers. Their organization requires individuals who are capable of performing the following tasks:

• Spending time with their puppies and kittens
• Walking dogs
• Help interview prospective families
• Feed the animals
• Clean up animal waste
• Be available to volunteer one Saturday a month
