Is there a time commitment?
Yes, volunteers need to commit to at least 5 hours per month during a 3 month period.
What days and hours can I volunteer?
Volunteers are scheduled Monday through Saturday between 8am-5pm. Greater Huntsville Humane Society is closed on Sundays to Volunteers and to the Public. Volunteers may also be scheduled at off-site after hours events.
What is the Dress Code Policy?
Volunteers are required to purchase a GHHS Volunteer T-shirt ($15). Please do your best to wear your Volunteer Shirt, but if you forget to wear it then make sure you are dressed appropriately.
What does Volunteer Orientation involve?
Volunteer orientation will last approximately 2 hours and you will receive an overview of the history, mission and services of the GHHS, as well as an in-depth discussion of the volunteer process requirements. You'll also be briefed with the various volunteer opportunities that you can be a part of. After orientation, you will receive an email from Greater Huntsville Humane Society directing you to register for additional training sessions based on the volunteer positions you are interested in.
Is it possible for me to volunteer with GHHS without completing the Volunteer Onboarding Process?
No ,all volunteers are required to complete the Volunteer Onboarding Process. Orientation and training will not only provide an understanding of Greater Huntsville Humane Society's mission as well as a description of the numerous volunteer positions available, but it will also provide invaluable and necessary information on animal communication & behavior, animal handling methods and shelter protocols.

Children (6+) may participate in the Paws For Reading Program.
Am I able to be scheduled to volunteer with my friends and/or family?
Yes! Everyone must complete the Volunteer Onboarding Process, but can be scheduled during the same volunteer shift. You are not able to bring any unauthorized visitors with you while you are volunteering.
