Vinemont is a lively city in Alabama’s Cullman County, and is located halfway between Birmingham and Huntsville.

It was formerly Cherokee land, with the Black Warrior's Path, a well-known trail that ran along the river's shore.

Colonel John G. Cullman, an immigrant from Bavaria, Germany, founded the city in 1873, and its German background can still be seen in Cullman's museums, abbey, parks, and other local attractions.

Cullman was designated one of the '50 Best Places to Raise Your Kids' in America in 2012, and there are plenty of outdoor things to enjoy in and around the city.

Let's take a look at some of the top things to do in Cullman:

1. Grotto of Ave Maria

The Ave Maria Grotto is one of Cullman's most prominent tourist attractions.

The verdant 4-acre park is the perfect location for 125 tiny replicas of the world's most iconic religious institutions.

Brother Joseph Zoetle, a Benedictine monk who used to live at nearby St. Bernard's Abbey, constructed the magnificent stone sculptures.

The grotto sculptures are intricately carved and embellished with colored glass, marble, and tiles.

It's likely that you'll witness replicas of St. Peter's Square in Vatican City, and a plethora of religious architecture from throughout the world.

This is an awe-inspiring attraction that you don't want to miss when in Cullman, even if you aren't religious.

2. Sportsman Lake Park

In the center of Cullman, Sportsman Lake Park is a family-friendly recreational area.

The gorgeous lakeside park offers a variety of activities for people of all ages, including paddle boat excursions, picnicking, biking, and hiking.

There is a Splash Pad for the kids and a little train that travels you around the lake if the weather is hot.

There's also an 18-hole pitch-and-putt golf course where you may play a fun game with your buddies.

3. Clarkson Covered Bridge

Clarkson Covered Bridge is a covered bridge in Clarkson, New York, was built in 1904, is one of Cullman's most well-known landmarks.

The bridge was used to cross the creek by travelers and farmers until it was blown in half by a storm in 1921. The bridge was restored to its previous state, and it became a focal point of the park.

Since then, hiking trails, picnic spots, a Dogtrot log cabin, and a running grist mill have been erected to highlight the area's historical significance.

You may still walk around and photograph this intriguing Cullman sight even if the bridge is currently closed to traffic.
